- Server Information Report Generator - Version 1.00N
-

- INTRODUCTION:
-
- When Novell introduced Netware 2.10, they added a
- program called FCONSOLE. FCONSOLE permitted the system
- manager to look at some critical network operating
- statistics - such as Cache, LAN Adapter and Disk
- information. This new facility has been a big help in
- watching file server efficiency and for tracking possible
- problems. But as networks become larger and more popular,
- they increase in number.
-
- With the increased number of networks in large
- companies comes the need to log and monitor network
- operations on a regular basis. Unfortunately, Novell did not
- provide any capabilities to print the statistics in FCONSOLE
- for logging and comparisons. The CMI Server Information
- Report Generator is designed to bridge this gap.
-
- The CMI Server Information Report Generator (referred
- to as Server Info from here forward) generates a three page
- report that includes File Server, Disk and Volume, LAN
- Adapter, and Cache statistics. Server Info has built in
- support for over a dozen different printer types. Also,
- Server Info has been designed with multiple bridged file
- servers in mind.
-
- INSTALLATION:
-
- The installation of Server Info is simple and straight
- forward. Simply copy the SRVRINFO.EXE file into the
- subdirectory it will be operated in (Note: Server Info can
- be operated from a Search Mapping). The first time Server
- Info is run it will need to be configured. NOTE: during the
- installation process, Server Info has to write directly to
- the SRVRINFO.EXE to save the configuration information.
- Please use an account that has Read, Write, Open and Search
- rights to the directory the SRVRINFO.EXE file is in and do
- not FLAG SRVRINFO.EXE to Read Only. After Server Info has
- been configured, it will operate with only Read, Open and
- Search rights.
-
- Type SRVRINFO then press the <ENTER> key from the DOS
- command line. If this is the first time Server Info is being
- run, a window with the heading "Printer Selections" will
- appear in the center of the screen. The <UP ARROW> and <DOWN
- ARROW> keys move the highlight bar within the window. Move
- the highlight bar until it is over the printer name that
- describes your printer then press <ENTER>. If you do not see
- your printer on the list, try the "IBM ProPrinter II" or
- "Generic Epson" selections. If you will be writing the
- Server Information Reports to a disk file, select the "Disk
- File" option. NOTE: Server Info requires Read, Write,
- Create, Open and Search rights in the current directory in

- order to write a report to a file. If you select the wrong
- printer or printer port, see the OPERATION section below for
- information on how to change your printer selection.
-
- After selecting your printer, a window with the heading
- "Ports" will appear in the center of the screen. This window
- will allow you to select the printer port that your printer
- is attached to. The arrow keys work the same with this
- window as the did with the "Printer Selections" window. Move
- the highlight bar until it is over the printer port that
- your printer is attached to then press <ENTER>.
-
- After selecting your printer port, a window with the
- heading "Printer Information" will appear left of center on
- the screen. If the printer selected and the port selected
- match your printer, type <Y>. If not, type <N>.
-
- OPERATION:
-
- Before a user can print a report of a file servers
- statistics, they must be added as a Console Operator in
- SYSCON.
-
- To start Server Info, type SRVRINFO and the press the
- <ENTER> key from the DOS command line. If a window with the
- heading "Printer Selections" appears in the center of the
- screen, please review the INSTALLATION section of this
- document. If Server Info has already been installed, a list
- of file servers will appear left of center on your screen.
- Only file servers you are logged into and have console
- rights to will appear on the screen. To print a report of a
- file server's statistics, use the arrow keys to move the
- highlight bar until it is over the file server name then
- press the <ENTER> key. A window with the heading "Server
- Info Operating Status" will appear on the screen while
- Server Info is printing the report. Repeat these steps for
- each file server you wish to generate a report for. When you
- are finished with Server Info, move the highlight bar with
- the arrow keys until it is over the "[EXIT]" option then
- press the <ENTER> key or just press the <ESC> key from any
- point.
-

- that you are currently logged into are a console operator
- of, type SRVRINFO /A and then press the <ENTER> key from the
- DOS command line.
-
- If it is necessary to reinstall Server Info, type
- SRVRINFO /I and then press the <ENTER> key from the DOS
- command line.
